What makes me eligible for holding a CPCS card?
The three major cards of the CPCS scheme are Tester Card, Competent Operator Card, and Trained Operator Card. To get any of these three cards, a candidate has to undergo a comprehensive examination process. While the theory makes a part of the examination processes, practical testing is also involved. Other factors that are similarly included are a personal evaluation of a construction worker’s skill levels, qualifications, and current experience.
- The Trained Operator Card is also known as the Red CPCS Card. It is a first-level, non-renewable card issued for the candidates for a two-year duration. Following these two years, a candidate can apply for the Competent Operator Card.
- The Competent Operator Card is also known as the Blue CPCS Card. It is the second level of CPCS cards after the Trained Operator Card. Possessing the Competent Operator Card implies that a construction worker can operate the plant machinery with no supervision.
To be eligible for the Competent Operator Card, a construction worker should have the Trained Operator Card. He must also pass the CPCS practical and theory tests and hold a valid CITB certificate. Competent Operator Card is a renewable card valid for five years.
- The Tester Card is the final stage of the CPCS scheme. It is among the most advanced cards issued for plant expertise and operations. Two stages are associated with the Tester Card, Provisional Card, and Full Card. They are valid for 2 and 5 years respectively.
